Rock Hunting by Celestial-Rainstorm Rock Hunting by Celestial-Rainstorm
"Papa! Look, I found another!"

"Eeyup, y'sure did, Sugarcube."

A small, grey filly galloped across the field, violet eyes sparkling with excitement. She and her father had just returned from another excellent hunting expedition in the outskirts of the Dragon Lands, the volcanic ash beds simply perfect for naturally creating treasures.

"Why don't we take a rest, youngin'? Then ah can git those crackin' for yah." The large red stallion said, trotting after his daughter. It warmed his heart to see her so excited. She was such a shy and quiet thing, but when she was able to indulge her true passion, then she truly came out of her shell.

The little filly nodded, slipping off her back full of tools, clattering loudly as the large, simple-looking rocks nudged against one another. She trotted in place excitedly as her father bit down firmly on her worn little pick, and swung his heavy head down. The point of the pick sliced easily through the solid rock, cracking it in half. The slice wasn't as clean as her mother would have made it, but her father was learning fast.

"Ohh! Amethyst!" The filly exclaimed, sitting down and gingerly scooping up one of the halves, gazing at the purple crystals with awe. The cluster glittered and sparkled as they saw sunlight for the very first time. "Papa, isn't it beautiful?"

Big Macintosh lay down in the soft, green grass beside his little one, smiling as she continued to study the geode with rapt attention.

"Now, what're'yah gonna make outta that one, Pip?" Macintosh said, still grinning. The filly looked up, chewing her lip thoughtfully.

"I was thinking of making something for Auntie AJ. She's too many apples already, I gotta think of something new..." Pippin said, tapping her chin with her hoof. The cute little face made her father chuckle, ruffling her brown mane playfully.

"Whatever it is, your Auntie will love it."

I was inspired heavily by :iconlopoddity: to start adding dialogue to my pieces. Her little story snippets are always great to read, and her art is something to behold. You're an inspiration, Lop!

I've gotten a tablet recently, and as soon as I get the cables I'm really wanting to start delving into the world of digital art.

So, this was a piece I did at work. Introducing Pippin, Big Macintosh and Marble Pie's daughter! She's a near spitting image of her mother, except with a slightly lighter coat and brown mane and tail that she inherited from her grandfather. Pippin (of course named after an apple) is shy and quiet, but when she gets to talking about her passion, she simply cannot stop. Pippin loves rocks and geology, and has quite the unique spin on them: she loves to sculpt things out of the rocks she fins, especially geodes. Her cutie mark, a geode in the shape of an apple, appeared on her flank suddenly when she won an art contest with just that: an apple she sculpted out of a geode.

Despite being on the quiet side, Pippin is always roped into adventures (whether willingly or not) by her best friend, Athena. That draconequus can be very pursuasive!
